Couplings have unique functions in improving the working performance of the entire transmission system, ensuring the reliability of work, extending the service life of equipment, reducing noise, and enhancing transmission efficiency. A coupling is a device that connects two shafts or a shaft and a rotating part, rotating together without disengaging during the transmission of motion and power. During the transmission process, it does not change the direction of rotation or the magnitude of the torque. This is a common function of all types of couplings.
For the transmission systems under these special working conditions, couplings have functions and roles, and new comprehensive requirements have been put forward. Besides connecting two shafts and transmitting torque or motion, they are also required to compensate for the relative offset of the two shafts, reduce vibration, buffer, improve transmission efficiency, enhance transmission accuracy, reduce noise, and improve the performance of the transmission system. Moreover, the structure of the couplings should be simple.

It can only be used for a long time under well-lubricated and sealed conditions. Moreover, the sealing condition needs to be frequently checked, and lubricating oil or grease should be added. The maintenance workload is large, which increases auxiliary working hours, reduces effective working time and affects production efficiency. The external dimensions of couplings are divided into radial and axial dimensions, which should be within the allowable installation space of the machinery and equipment. There is no need to move the two shafts, and the alignment adjustment is easy.
If the unbalanced state of the coupling is caused by the cantilever load of the coupling, then this mechanical device is more sensitive to the unbalanced state of the coupling. Mechanical devices with cantilever rotors or cantilever loads are usually more sensitive to the unbalanced state of the coupling. During operation, the torque is input from the driving flange, transmitted to the metal diaphragm through the driving torque transmission bolts arranged at intervals along the circumference, and then output to the driven flange through the driven bolts.
