A brief introduction to magnetic couplings

Magnetic coupling, also known as magnetic transmission coupling, is a non-contact coupling. It is generally composed of two inner and outer magnets, separated by an isolation cover in the middle. The inner magnet is connected to the driven part, and the outer magnet is connected to the power part. In addition to the function of elastic coupling to buffer and absorb vibration, the greater feature of magnetic transmission coupling is that it breaks the structural form of traditional coupling and adopts a new magnetic coupling principle to achieve force and torque transmission between the driving shaft and the driven shaft without direct contact, and can transform dynamic seals into static seals to achieve zero leakage. Therefore, it is widely used in occasions with special requirements for leakage.

One of the successful applications of magnetic coupling is its combination with pumps – magnetic pumps. In the past, it was used as a precious special product only when it was necessary, but now its application field is very wide. Liquids in petrochemical, pharmaceutical, film, electroplating, nuclear power and other industries are mostly corrosive, flammable, explosive, toxic and expensive. Leakage leads to waste of working liquid and environmental pollution. Vacuum and semiconductor industries must prevent the invasion of external gases. Food, biology and medicine must ensure the purity and hygiene of the medium. Magnetic transmission couplings have found their place in these fields. It can be said that magnetic pumps are a large market for magnetic materials.
